Welcome to my (secret) blog!!

Hi!! It’s me, Heather, and welcome to my very secret blog page! This is a new thing I’m starting simply because I wanted a space to talk about other projects and concepts that didn’t make it into the portfolio, whether it be ideas that didn’t make it past the drafting stage, projects that were too experimental, or ones that don’t quite fit inside of a traditional portfolio. Here, this blog serves as a not-so-serious “brain dump"“ retelling of the many projects and explorations I took beyond case studies … and is also a place that houses all of the little things that I’m passionate about beyond design (because why not?).

Why I Call it the Atelier

Every designer has their own signature touch in their projects. For me, I always approach design as a giant sandbox full of room for playful exploration, or a space to push boundaries and explore all the possible opportunities. When developing my personal brand identity, I wanted to keep those playful aspects that represented me as a designer while also keeping it clean and polished. With these ideas in mind, I always wanted to give my website sort of its own identity as a space that’s beyond just a website portfolio. So, when looking for inspiration, I stumbled across the word “atelier,” a fancier term for an artist’s personal workspace. I thought it was the perfect word to describe the creative space I wanted to create, so I reworked simple parts of my website around that term, which is how this blog was formed. Think of it as documents from my fancy and chic studio! Isn’t that fun?

What to Expect

For the blog, I want to explore and talk about some of the works that didn’t make it into the portfolio— these projects range from logo reworks to personal concepts and ideas. I will also be writing about random topics that inspire me (like discovering the holy grail that is the new release of Dressmaker, a game that lets you design dresses … the real way), random things that I like (I am an avid doll collector and love to curate my collection), and experiences from college that really pushed my designer frontal lobe to develop.

After Hours at the Atelier is a blog for all of the in-betweens of being a designer. It is meant to give some of my projects and passions a little spotlight without needing to turn them into something bigger than they are. I like to think of it as leaving the atelier doors open a little later. I’m so excited to start this journey! And if you made it this far, thanks for reading!!

Tune in next time,

— Heather
